This year the festival will be a 3 day event, 23 - 25 october 2009, full of fun and excitement where salsa dancers from all over the world can meet learn, dance and get inspired!

The congress will guarantee 33 workshops at 4 different levels and sizzlin’salsa parties. We have invited renowned instructors from the USA,Spain, UK, France, Portugal and the Netherlands who will bring you their latest moves.

Tickets for the 8th edition of the Salsorro salsa festival are already on sale. Salsorro 2009 will take place this next November 6-8. Remember that the sooner you book, the best seat you will have in the theater, as you will select your seats as part of the booking process. INTERNATIONAL LINE UP
The Salsorro line up includes companies and dancers such as Oliver and Luda (Sydney) or Junior and Emily (Los Ángeles), that haven’t been back to Spain since 2006.
Apart from them, there are some amazing dancers that come for the very first time to Spain such as Dave Paris and Zoë Klein (New York), Eleguá (París), Dancefloor (Korea and France) or Fusión Salsera (Caracas). And of course lots of other stars such as Adrián and Anita, Hacha y Machete, Supermario, Juan Matos, Sabor a Fuego or Tropical Gem.

THE NEW SWING SEXTET LIVE
For the first time in a salsa congress in Spain, The New Swing Sextet will be playing live on Saturday night.
The new Swing Sextet is one of the most important New York latin music bands in the 60s and 70s. They have been a big sucess in the most important salsa congresses around the world: Los Ángeles, New York, Athens, Zurich, and now, Salsorro 2009.

Every ticket lowers or keeps its price compared to 2008 and, with no additional cost, include the  concert by The New Swing Sextet. Ticket types and their available extras can be checked at the Salsorro 2009 tickets section.

Pour Ricardo LEMVO, les origines familiales, culturelles et musicales viennent de l’Afrique. Le Zaïre (ancien Congo), pays de naissance et l’An- gola.

L’Afrique, ce sont les racines, les rythmes originels, la langue (le lingala) et surtout la Rumba Congolaise…A l’adolescence, il part à Los Angeles. Là-bas il y a le Jazz, la cote ouest et de nombreuses fusions musicales. Ces origines, les rencontres et découvertes façonnent cet artiste qui va faire sa propre synthèse en rapprochant la musique cubaine de la rumba congolaise. Les familles étaient toutes proches, restait à y associer l’influence du Jazz et de grandes références comme Benny More pour la musique cubaine ou Johnny Pacheco  pour la Salsa New-yorkaise en insérant ses couleurs pour trouver son style et créer un répertoire original et bien identifié. Ricardo Lemvo, c’est chaleureux, il y a les bases fondamentales et c’est international. ‘’Essentiellement, c’est la fu- sion du Son Montuno et des rythmes africains’’. Cet artiste, travaille sur l’héritage, ajoute et mé- lange beaucoup de rythmes et colore sa musique de plusieurs langues, Lingala (Congo), Kikongo (Angola), Espagnol, Anglais, Portugais et Français. Une musique faite pour voyager et s’enrichir…

“PEDRITO CALVO JUNIOR Y SU ORQUESTA”
PEDRITO CALVO JUNIOR nasce all’Havana il 4 marzo del 1979, figlio d’arte del grande e famoso cantante cubano PEDRITO CALVO.
Inizia i suoi studi musicali nel 1993 nella scuola elementare di musica Guillermo Tomas de Guanabacoa, a Cuba , nello specifico di chitarra e canto.
Inizialmente comincia a far parte di vari gruppi musicali. La sua carriera professionale a Cuba inizia con “LM SOBREDOSIS”,”LA FARANDULA”,”CHARANGA FOREVER” ed per 5 anni con “PEDRITO CALVO y LA JUSTICIA”, orchestra di suo padre, dove ha anche inciso in vari cd dell’orchestra.
La sua carriera è cresciuta di anno in anno acquistando una gran padronanza del palcoscenico con una vasta esperienza lavorando in musical e spettacoli come “Paradise Road” e “Mango Tropical Cafe” e concerti di tutti tipi. Pedrito Calvo Junior ha condiviso scenari con grandi artisti della musica cubana come Ibrahim Ferrer, Omara Portuondo, Pio Leiva, Los Van Van, Amadito Valdez, Barbarito Torres.
Fonda la sua orquestra all’inizio del 2009 composta da vari musicisti famosi a Cuba e in Europa, partecipa con essa al suo primo giro internazionale al “CUBAMEMUCHO 2009″ in Germania, uno dei festival cubani piu importanti d’Europa, ottenendo grande successo e soddisfazione da parte del pubblico.
I suoi ultimi successi discografici sono inclusi in compilation latine e si possono ascoltare in molte sale da ballo italiane,europee e latinoamerica.

Carlos ‘el Unico Bachatero’: Bachata Building Blocks vol 1

 As the name suggests this DVD is meant to take you from zero knowledge of the dance to dancing a reasonable social Bachata. It does so by introducing the basic steps, the basic turns for man and lady, the basic concepts of leading and following and some simple elements of styling. Once this is done, these elements are mixed and combined into 7 turn patterns which will help you to practise and get going in your social dance. Once you think the DVD is close to the end, you will find a few more sections with further instruction on how to time your lead and following, and a few more hints on styling. Here Carlos’ very sensible approach to the dance comes out quite clearly: don’t overdo it, don’t exaggerate the hip movement, simply be natural and in tune with your partner. I like Carlos’ style, the DVD and the teaching; although the editing and organisation of the DVD could have received a bit more attention. I think it is a nice introduction to the dance.

Melissa Fernandez: Mel’s Moves: Ladiesstyling on1

The purpose of this DVD is to learn what Melissa does: what she does when she styles, when she spins, when she goes into solo shines, so that you won’t need to drive yourself crazy trying to film her at congresses or scrutinise her on YouTube. You can just learn straight from her: it makes sense.

Melissa is at her exuberant, energetic best in this DVD which may appear intimidating to some but may also be contagious and help you to overcome your shyness, as Melissa herself hints at. Underneath all this, the teaching is solid and as in the turn patterns DVD with Louis, she often insert technical details in between stylistic description. A good DVD provided the exuberance of LA style at its peak is what you like

Der Sohn des wohl ehemals berühmtesten Leadsängers Kubas der weltbekannten kubanischen Band Los Van Vans, Pedrito Calvo Jr., sang bereits mit 17 Jahren in den populärsten Bands Kubas:
LM Sobredosis, La Farandula, Charanga Forever, Pedrito Calvo y La Justicia. Er teilte sich die Bühne bereits mit Los Van Van, Omar Portuondo, Pio Leiva, Ibrahim Ferrer u.v.m. Auf unserer Bühne wird auch seine schillernde Schwester Liuba ihr Stardebüt präsentieren.

Johnny Vazquez: Descarga 54

If you have followed salsa for a few years, you will surely remember being amazed in the late 90s at Johnny’s supersonic triple back spins, his splits, his acrobatics, his energy plus much more. After many years he has released this DVD, his first and well overdue. I had lost contact with his dancing for a few years and was glad to find him just as ‘crazy’ and possibly even more amazing than before. With his speed intact, the precision of his dancing a great deal shaper and a repertoire widened by rumba and some hip hop tricks, watching him still makes my jaw drop. If you like his style, and LA style in general, you can hardly find anyone to envy more; if you don’t particularly like LA style, like me, you can still be left wondering what kind of technical and physical ability makes certain steps possible.

This is a free-style DVD. The shines are well taught, and well demonstrated, with explanation of all the details. Not that this will make them any more accessible unless you are also exceptionally gifted; nor are the steps material for a night club, but rather for stage performance or for when you are in the mood to impress. Having said that, I enjoyed watching this DVD a lot, though I won’t even try the steps since I know I have no chance, I am only human after all..
